The cabin interiors are the perfect home away from home.

'Aside from the frequent design references in our reviews, something we can’t take credit for is our resident tribe of curious kangaroos. Our location is revered being within a stone’s throw of the Peninsula’s most desirable vineyards,' says owner Chloe Burgess.

'The property is in an elevated part of the region with a beautiful north-facing aspect, which were key prerequisites for us considering the climate. We were won over by the charming rustic sheds and with a keen eye you can even see a glimpse of Westernport Bay.'

'Possibly our smartest move was installing wood heaters in each of the cabins—now more than ever guests seek experience when they travel and this ticks that box year-round.'

When LogBox Red Hill owner Chloe Burgess and her family first stumbled on the property in Red Hill on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, the buildings on the site were dilapidated and in need of some serious attention.

Previously a working farm with livestock, paddocks, a worker’s cottage and a charming dairy, Chloe was immediately taken with the charming property’s potential, ‘We wanted to breathe new life into these quaint structures without losing their authenticity,’ she shares.

The restoration was focused on keeping the history of the buildings intact—from reviving the original concrete slabs to respecting the existing timber cladding and its aged patina. ‘Our builder cleverly repurposed disused materials into doors, furniture and other functioning parts—having these aged elements gives the space depth and a sense of permanence. We then highlighted with playful accents to give the spaces their own identity. We drew from elements inspired by the local surroundings in our colour palette; green nature hues, deep ocean blue, warm beige and rust tones. As this is a short-term space, we felt we could really have fun with it,’ says Chloe.

LogBox Hill has been through two stages of development—the first was in 2018 and the final touches were completed last year. The property is now open for visitors to stay in one of three spaces; the smaller Dairy and Cabin, or the two-bedroom Green House. And if you have a special occasion coming up, such as Milestone birthday, family reunion or wedding party, the ‘Whole Shebang’ of the entire property is also available.

A reference to the surrounding red earth, the Red Hill area has a selection of vineyards, cellar doors and producers, all a stone’s throw from the property. ‘Red Hill itself is a very tangible name,’ says Chloe of the inspiration behind RedBox Red Hill, ‘We wanted to be a playful extension of this with provocative yet concise wording—we were angling for the ‘cabin in the woods’ vibe.’

She adds, ‘Aside from the frequent design references in our reviews, something we can’t take credit for is our resident tribe of curious kangaroos! But possibly our smartest move was installing wood heaters in each of the cabins… now more than ever guests seek experience when they travel, and this ticks that box year-round.’
