In Focus | Redroaster - Pike & Pine
Bringing the outside in was the main goal for Melbourne interior design studio The Stella Collective for their redesign of Red Roaster, Brighton’s oldest coffee house. The notoriously gloomy English weather was inspiration for the tropical punk theme, named 'Botanical Punk'. The Stella Collective's Hana Hakim describes how they wanted guests visiting the coffee house to enjoy nature all year round, “Botanical Punk was born out of a necessity of being at the mercy of the UK winters, when outdoor dining can be brutal,” says Hana. The clean lines of the coffee houses' gridded tiling captures the gothic feel, while the jungle canopy covering the dining area provides the botanical touch. The contrast of modern punk and natural botanical showcases the mix between sophistication and punk. A wonderful balance.
