Since its opening last November, the Armadillo & Co flagship showroom has garnered a lot of attention. The new space is the luxury rug brand’s first Australian retail store, located in an impressive 385 square metre, two-storey, gallery-esuqe building space in the design district of Surry Hills.

Co-founded by Jodie Fried and Sally Pottharst, the new showroom marks the decade-long milestone for the brand, “We wanted to create a sensory spatial environment that represents the Armadillo & Co of today and the future at the forefront of contemporary design,” shares Sally. The savvy duo collaborated with Studio Goss on the design of the retail space.

The design brief for architect and principle director, David Goss, was to design a space to foster interactions and experiences on a more personal level and to also showcase the brands simple and beautiful textures found in natural materials. David sought inspiration by looking into Armadillo & Co’s influences — from shifts textures and shadows to Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh and concrete palettes. The concrete floor, natural coir matting and solid white-oak furniture harmoniously tie the entire material palette together in the calming new space which is a welcome refuge from the outside world.

“The effortless collaborative process we experienced is evident in the sense of calm and balance in how the space has come together,” shares David Goss. Photo – Rory Gardener.

The interior is at once soothingly intimate and undeniably luxurious, a true reflection of our brand’s design philosophy and application that invites visitors to immerse themselves in this refuge from the outside world.
