Designer Claire Delmar of STUDIO CD Design, who previously had a career in editorial styling for some of Australia’s leading design publications, steps into the residential design world with her latest project, Art House.
Originally built in the 1900’s, Art House is a home which plays on contrasts between the old and new, and the masculine and feminine. The interior is a combination of modern and traditional elements, which have been achieved through colour, texture and materials, to create a visual journey from space to space, each with its own distinct features.
Home to a young family, a focus for the redesign was on including furniture that was suitable for the growing family. The end result is an adaptable space with joinery designed to be removed and changed with the family’s needs. Custom designed furniture with details from the past surprise with the addition of neon, stone or modern hardware. This unlikely combination adds to the meticulously curated rooms, with attention to detail at the forefront of the design. “The furniture, finishes and artworks, bring a sense of fun and lightness to the house with bright colour, bold graphics and rounded or curved shapes which soften its grandeur masculinity,” says Claire Delmar.
A favourite space for Claire is the interconnecting formal living and dining rooms - with mural wallpaper in the dining space adding whimsy while the living space features bold art, curated furniture and custom-designed pieces, which bring the rooms together, “These rooms hold a special place in my heart - they are rooms that create discussion and entertainment all at the same time,” she shares.
