In response to the past few chaotic years, the Dulux Colour Forecast for 2023 creates colours for the creation of meaningful spaces, reflecting our desire to bond with the environment, communities and the people we love.

The annual forecast is based on year-round research into global and local trends that are predicted to soar in the near-future, with next year destined to be all about simple and authentic ways of living.

‘We have all reacted to the upheavals of the last couple of years in different ways – some people crave lightness and whimsy, whilst others seek order and reassurance. The three palettes released in the Dulux Colour Forecast 2023 reflect these differing needs, allowing you to create beautiful living spaces that reflect where you are in your life’s journey,’ says Bree Leech

The three new and fresh palettes - Balance, Connect and Revive, present warm, earth based colours that reinforce a connection with nature, oceanic blues that foster stillness and calm, and eclectic brighter hues to encourage moments of pure escapism.

Dulux’s Balance is a refined palette of serene marine blues, gentle greens and accents of deep garnet that evokes the beauty and futility of the ocean and shoreline. ‘Post pandemic, not everyone is craving indulgence, risk and change - some crave the reassurance of structure and rules - to which Balance gives,’ says Lucena-Orr.

Balance is inspired by a ‘less is more’ philosophy, focused on immersive colour of elegant, understated colours, such as its key shades of Kimberly Sea, Starfish and Sea Kelp.

With its warm, earthy tones of moss, wasabi, sandstone, muddied yellow and burnt charcoal, Dulux’s Connect palette is all about fostering our relationship with nature and the outdoors.

‘It speaks of calm, comfort and an honest approach to living, and brings in many of the pastimes we experienced during lockdown, such as hiking, cooking and gardening,’ says Lucena-Orr.

The natural and quietly stable palette brings warmth and intimacy to interiors, it reflects our desire for a simpler lifestyle, grounded in nature. ‘The Connect palette could look incredible in a cosy dining room or living area of a family home or a country weekender,’ she says.

Filled with playful, bright colours, such as rose pink, breezy blue, sunshine yellow and burnt orange, the Dulux Revive palette is an instant mood-lifter, just what many of us need after a gruelling past couple years.

Out with ‘design rules’, and in with personal expression, Revive brings a lightness and a sense of freedom to revive our spirits. Its kaleidoscope of saturated hues merges past with present, mixing 80’s style colour blocking and mid-century furniture with futuristic features, the look these colours create within the home gives off ‘retro futurism’.

With 2023 around the corner, these palettes are yet to dominate our homes and brighten our interiors in the year to come, creating connection and joy through colour.
