Designed as a sister venue to Carlton café-florist, Flovie, La Fantaisie – ‘fantasy' in French – called for an evolution of the brand.

Owners Jia and Valerie Wang have created a café, patisserie, florist and event venue, all rolled into one utterly beautiful space in the heart of Abbotsford, in Melbourne.

High on the priority-list was to create a space that felt warm, approachable, gentle and sophisticated. The building’s original ornamentation and authentic materials inspired Bergman & Co. to pursue a detail-led and layered sensibility, supporting a sensory reading of space.

The interior embraces a layered approach to materials, reflecting the beauty and fragility of the historic site.

Layered materials and finely crafted details reflect shared qualities between the venue’s site, floristry and patisserie. Boasting dreamy marble accents, soft archways and lots of artful bouquets on display, ready to take home, post decadent pastry from the specialty patisserie.

Classic bentwood chairs, sculpted wall lights, linen drapery and hand-glazed wall tiles create a layered and tonal setting that welcomes guests and invites them to linger.

With its burnished concrete floors, exposed-truss ceilings, raked render and troweled brick walls create a textural backdrop, the combination of materials are contrasted yet work together effortlessly.

A focus within the space is the custom blush-toned marble – the bench’s scalloped profile is a creative hallmark of the space, complemented by linen drapery and tiered flower displays that define a series of dining settings in timber and cognac leather.

Upstairs, you will find a brass-lined cocktail bar and open function room, which crafts a captivating setting for events.
