Sydney-based visual artist Hannah Carrick has long been drawn to the soft yet strong shapes of the female body, often drawing on goddess-like forms that seem to have stepped out of Grecian times.

Ahead of Mother’s Day, Leif commissioned Hannah to create three acrylic artworks of the female form in her eponymous style of simple, fluid lines.

‘I like to create all females in my work to look goddess-like because I think all women are goddesses, this theme was particularly present for this Mother’s Day collaboration,’ says Hannah.

Hannah worked with a palette of warm, comforting hues focusing on the gentle, loving and often magnetic nature of women for the three artworks: Gentle, Magnetic and Love, drawing from her close relationship with her own mother.

‘I wanted to pay tribute to the female form and how it morphs and changes as it grows new life. The colour palette has an autumnal vibe but also represents warmth, something my mother always makes me feel when I’m around her.’

100% of the three original framed artworks will be sold and donated to Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC), a charity dedicated to supporting women in crisis. The sale of each limited edition magnum will also deliver a $5 donation to support the essential work of the Redfern-based charity.

‘Growing up I watched my own mother struggle raising two kids without any support. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to use my work as a platform to raise awareness and much-needed funds to help support women and children impacted by homelessness, domestic violence and systemic disadvantage. Every little bit matters,’ says Hannah.
