The Baroque period is known of its opulence, grandeur and richness. Luxurious florals, shimmering crystals and intricate carvings are elements from the era that come to mind - features that Double was drawn to for their latest collection, Modern Baroque.

Rooted in the artistic complexity of the Baroque period, the designs in the range intertwine the elaborate details of traditional Baroque with the simplicity and functionality of contemporary design. A welcome move away from coastal-core and minimalist interior trends, the collection is delicately bold, taking cues from the storied era.

‘Design trends are starting to shift away from hyper minimalistic themes and towards softer, more intricate, richer ones. We saw this shift in graphic design first in the transition from sans serif fonts to now serif fonts and now this is in turn is spilling into interior design - from wrought iron trends to the use of marble, and application of strong colours like bright blues and deep reds,’ says Double Creative Director, Michael Carter

Pattern and colour are infused in the designs – drawing from the period, the modern version has been created to include whimsy and joy. ‘Double mixes design with fun - we want Aussies’s homes to look beautiful but also suit the way we live, which is relaxed and fun, and so this is light-hearted and modern version of what the Baroque period was all about,’ says Michael.

Rugs in our interior spaces are no longer purely floor coverings, they have become artwork for our floors – an opportunity to add a piece of art to your space, that’s also interchangeable and can be updated seasonally.

‘A rug is an opportunity to put art on the floor! We feel that the rug can tie an entire room together and we love that people can curate more neutral “safe” furniture pieces and then swap our rugs in and out over time, because our rug tops are interchangeable, it’s easy to create freshness to a space whenever you need,’ shares Michael.

The contemporary collection of rugs in the Double collection are ideal for a multitude of spaces – from the busy share house, to the family home with young children, and everything in between. The brand’s hero textures are used across expansive design stories; Persian, Vintage, Moroccan, Abstract, Mid-Century, Bohemian, Modern Australian and Floral, in a range of sizes and colourways.

Made for versatility and usability, all the designs in the collection feature a patented two-layer technology, making each rug machine washable – for spaces where mess and accidental spills no longer need to be a concern.
