The end of 2020 was a time for reflection for many. It was the year that took us by surprise, and gave us more lows than it did highs. Kitty Clark, founder of Saint Cloche, decided that she’d rather see the positive and celebrate by moving forward into 2021 with a surge of positivity and hope. And with this in mind, her 6th curated group show, NAUTILUS, was conceptualised.
NAUTILUS draws inspiration from the great oceans, where everything in nature manifests and springs forth, and natural soundscapes and circadian rhythms of day and night synthesise as sources of endless creative motivation for the 16 artists included in the group show.
The artists were invited to explore the symbolism behind Nautilus, focusing on the optimistic, clinging to all silver-linings that 2020 has brought us, into a new, evolving terrain. Saint Cloche artists such as Evi O, Natalie Rosin and Hannah Nowlan are joined by guest artists such as ceramist Emily Brookfield and Indivi Sutton.
The ‘Nautilus Ephemeris’ series is a collaborative visual diary featuring treasured fragments of life’s longing for itself and the connection we are all searching for. “I’ve been soul-searching the meaning of ‘Sanctuary’ and reflecting on what the future will be like for our children? Nautilus is an ode to the simple, raw elements experienced in daily life that give us hope and positivity,” says Kitty.
The month long exhibition is in its final week until January 10th, both online and at Saint Cloche gallery in Paddington, Sydney.
