The aptly named Storybook House, is a small Victorian terrace in Melbourne’s inner-north, which has undergone a unique renovation. Through a series of clever multi-use spaces and custom features with sustainability at their core, Folk Architects, have created a highly-functional home within a small heritage footprint.

Typical of period house renovations, high on the priority list was open-plan living, an additional bedroom and abundant natural light. Folk Architects have delivered that and more - achieving fluid, open interiors by maximising ceiling height, natural light, views to the outdoors and circulation spaces which conceal laundry, kitchen and storage. The focus was to fit as much as possible into a small building, with no single plane or surface left under utilised. The outcome is a series of flexible spaces, hidden nooks and a sustainable approach that’s focused on healthy building materials.

Sustainability is at the core of Storybook House, with the use of white roof and glazed terracotta tiles, which keep the interior naturally cool.

Folk Architects chose polished concrete for the indoor-outdoor living space and Fibonnaci Stone tiles in the bathroom.
