Accessible only by boat, it’s hard to believe that The Cottage at Trincomalee is just an hour north from Sydney’s CBD.

Tucked within the nature surrounds, the cottage is perfect for retreating away from city living, with expansive views over glistening Pittwater.

The main open-plan living room incorporates lounging, dining and cooking, opening out to views across the water.

A built-in day bed provides the perfect corner for relaxing, as well as an extra bed for a third guest.

In the colder months, the slow combustion stove warms up the entire cottage.

The cottage is furnished with a mix of collectable mid-century furniture and artwork.

The warm main bedroom space includes a feature stain glass window, which pick up tones within the space.

The bedroom space, complete with hotel grade queen bed, French linen sheets and a built in robe.

The cottage sits within the grounds of Richard Unsworth’s historic house, Trincomalee. ‘Trinco’, as it’s affectionately called, was built in 1896, and is one of the original old homes on Pittwater.

Lovett Bay, in Pittwater, is one of Sydney’s most magical areas to visit. A mere hour drive north from the CBD, the homes in the area are accessible only by boat, most with views out across the trees and sparkling water. The Cottage at Trincomalee, owned by Garden Life director, Richard Unsworth, is one such property.

The cottage sits within the grounds of Richard’s own historic house, Trincomalee, where he has lived for a number of years. Along with the main house, the once caretaker’s cottage, affectionately called ‘Trinco’, was built in 1896, and is one of the original historic properties on Pittwater.

Lucky for us, Richard has restored the secluded cottage, so we too can visit the area and stay within the idyllic surrounds, available for bookings through Airbnb.

Inside the quaint cottage, which is ideal for up to three guests, is a main open-plan living room, which includes a space for lounging, dining and cooking, opening out to breathtaking views across Pittwater.

The bedroom space is complete with hotel grade queen bed, French linen sheets and a built-in robe. Throughout the cottage is a relaxed modernist aesthetic, furnished with a mix of collectable mid-century furniture and artwork, hand-picked by Richard from his vast furniture collection in the main house.

Trinco is the ideal location to immerse yourself in nature, basking in the nature surrounds and taking in the incredible water views—either be as active or restful as you feel, there are beautiful nature walks on the doorstep and plenty of space to doze and daydream!
