The next instalment of the Tigmi Art Series is a Group Ceramic Show featuring work by a few of our favourite ceramic artists: Jan Vogelpoel, Softedge, Lisa Lapointe + Coe Studio.
Coming together for the all-female show, here’s a little background on each of the talented artists.
Jan Vogelpoel: Combining a mid-century design aesthetic with a contemporary minimalist approach, Jan Vogelpoel’s intuitive and fervent process produces ceramic sculptures that hold an ethereal presence in any space, effortlessly reflecting connection, fluidity and strength. Each piece carries the energy of nature and the maker, and the characteristic raw finish of her work makes them highly tactile, recalling the textures of sandstone cliffs or ancient artefacts.
Softedge: Softedge is a ceramic-based project, devoted to the sculptural possibilities of everyday tactile objects, and the spongy edges of their disciplines. Currently taking form as an ever-evolving collection of slip-cast wares and an ongoing series of editions intended to be both functional and aesthetic, Softedge questions the potential of interacting with utilitarism through a playful consideration of use, obscurities, and intuitive, original form.
Lisa Lapointe: Lisa is a multi-disciplinary artist working in paint, pencil, textiles, timber and most recently – clay. Her practice is disciplined, structured and meditative, providing greater focus and freedom for internal investigation and expression. Spiritual and ancient, earthly and modern: colour, texture and shape are the very particular language through which her thoughts and emotions are generously and joyfully shared.
Coe Studio: Carly is a ceramicist, artist, and designer from the Far North Coast of NSW. She first discovered clay as a 10-year-old when her mother, a potter, introduced her to the pottery wheel. Using traditional coiling techniques and her signature glazes, Carly’s most recent enquiry into sculptural form, examines fluidity, symbioses, and her innate feeling of interconnectedness.
Each of the artists has donated an artwork to the Tigmi Trading Clay For Community flood relief raffle. By purchasing a ticket you'll be supporting The Flood Relief Fund in community-led flood relief across the Northern Rivers, NSW. Pop online to purchase your ticket.
