Artist Statement
Recently I’ve been drawn to the work of Edward Hopper, an American painter famous for painting scenes of loneliness. For my piece for this collection I wanted to draw directly from one of his most well known works Morning Sun (1952). While Hopper’s painting invokes themes of urban isolation, small differences in my interpretation of the work alter the theme to reflect on how important moments of solitude are in a world that pushes us to constantly juggle, hustle and optimise. Sometimes it's in the moments of stillness and quiet contemplation where we can find the most inspiration.
