Albert Park Residence is perhaps one of Melbourne’s most significant heritage homes. The 125 year old Victorian terrace features all the elements of a heritage property rich with history and grandeur, a project which designers GOLDEN were absolutely honoured to take on. The delicate design brief called to revitalise the home by adding a touch of contemporary and also remaining loyal to its authentic roots.
The GOLDEN team worked to adhere to a detailed heritage guideline, carefully and respectfully working with original features which include marble fireplaces, timber work, roses and cornices throughout the two level terrace. Additional Victorian features such as archways, architraves and skirting were also retained in line with the heritage statement. On the ground level, the redesign included multiple walls in the kitchen to be removed to create a larger open-plan setting, which now provides a large space for entertaining. From a strong Victorian base, a masculine palette was chosen in the space, introducing dark timber veneer, leathered granite and metal detailing, fusing contemporary style with practicality.
