For the design of Bolton Coach House, located in Dublin, Irish interior designer team Kingston Lafferty Design (KLD) worked closely alongside Ferreira Architects on the design and execution of fundamental decisions of the heritage listed space. From the materials to the layout, the pairs involvement in the design extended beyond the interior architecture of the existing building, which incorporates a new contemporary extension, exterior terraces and a courtyard.
KLD has designed the four-bedroom house to focus predominately on the design orientation - achieving a sense of seamlessness that maximises the flow between spaces, providing an engaging visual conversation between light, colour and materials throughout the interior. A standout design feature includes lined stone archways and portals between the different spaces in polished plaster, which frame views and elevate the simple ritual of passing from one room to another. The material palette fuses the heritage building’s industrial roots with a modern edge of polished marble, walnut and brass.
