We’re pleased to confirm that the retro and contemporary check trend in interiors is showing little signs of diminishing. Whether your home is minimal, classic or has elements of retro design, a check patterned rug can be the perfect addition.

Luckily for us, Double’s latest collection, Checks, embraces and reimagines the check motif in modern and colourful designs, providing a fresh take on the classic design.

The new collection of vibrant machine-washable checkered rugs are influenced by geometric shapes and clean lines, transitioning the interior movement to an interior staple for our homes. ‘Considered as a ‘neutral’ pattern, checks’ versatility can help transform a space, without making it feel overstyled or too trendy,’ says Double Creative Director, Michael Carter.

The versatile rugs can be an addition and a brand new layer to an already maximalist interior, enliven a minimal home as a focal point of interest, or honour a mid century aesthetic.

Made for use beyond the living room, a check rug can also be applied to a kitchen, hallway or bedroom—with the option of either going the subtle route or all out with something more bold. ‘Simply by swapping an existing rug with a check one can instantly give your living space a completely new look,’ says Michael.

If you’re not afraid to inject some colour into your home, the collection includes styles in sage, blue or red. For those on the cautious side, a traditional black and white design will freshen up the room without distracting from other decorative elements.

The Checks collection marks Double Rugs’ expansion into larger rug sizes, debuting new oversized offerings up to 300x400cm. Design aficionados can now make an even bolder statement with Checks rugs sized for spacious open concept living areas. The expansive dimensions allow for checkerboard patterns to be at its most impactful, becoming the main event rather than just an accent.

Made for versatility and usability, the Double collection of machine-washable rugs feature everything from colourful and abstract patterns to neutral styles—ideal for a multitude of spaces, from the busy share house, to the family home with young children, and everything in between. All the designs in the collection feature a patented two-layer technology, making each rug machine-washable and non-slip, making them perfect for everyday living, designed to handle those real life messy moments!
