I can’t think of a better platform than CRITERIA to collaborate with for my debut in Australia. We’ve known for some time that there has been an interest in Pierre Yovanovitch Mobilier in the region, so it was just a matter of finding the right partner to debut our works there.

Creative visionary Pierre Yovanovitch needs little introduction. The renowned Paris-based designer started his journey as a menswear designer for Pierre Cardin, leading him to follow his creative passions into interior architecture and design.

The designer’s signature haute couture aesthetic blends high art, architectural elements, and vintage furniture, to create refined yet unpretentious settings. Luckily for us, his Australian debut at CRITERIA gallery’s new space, in Melbourne, brings his unique furniture designs to our shores for the first time.

As the exclusive gallery for Pierre Yovanovitch Mobilier in Australia, Rachael Fry, CRITERIA founder and creative director will be leading the installation, ‘Pierre Yovanovitch is a rare creative visionary whose avant-garde concepts reflect a deep understanding of colour, composition, space and texture. I believe his kind of genius only comes along every so often, and when it does, the product of that genius is so powerful and exciting that it elicits a profound response to those who see it,’ says Rachael.

Creating an interior installation spanning three in-situ vignettes, Pierre has included items from his eponymous Mobilier collection within a home setting, complemented by a curated array of CRITERIA’s artworks selected by Pierre (an avid collector himself!), featuring artwork from Jules de Balincourt, Travis McDonald, Miranda Skoczek and Ben Mazey.

‘I can't think of a better platform than CRITERIA to collaborate with for my debut in Australia. We’ve known for some time that there has been an interest in Pierre Yovanovitch Mobilier in the region, so it was just a matter of finding the right partner to debut our works there. Rachael’s keen eye for design and established presence in the industry made a collaboration with CRITERIA a natural launching pad for us,’ says Pierre.

Pierre Yovanovitch’s installation will be open at CRITERIA gallery’s new South Yarra showroom from March 15 until May 2.
