Now in its 34th year, the annual Dulux 2020 Colour Awards celebrates exceptional use of colour in commercial and residential spaces across Australia and New Zealand. Each year the bar is raised a little higher, with entries using colour more creatively than the year before. Today we share some of our favourite projects from the Residential, Commercial Interior: Public & Hospitality and Commercial Interior: Workspace & Retail categories, the innovative spaces are seriously making us consider redecorating the Hunter & Folk studio space!

“There has been a shift away from cooler whites and neutrals which have previously dominated both residential and commercial interiors, with rich brown-based hues, such as soft terracotta, beiges, earthy greens and warm greys coming to the fore,” says Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux Colour Planning and Communications Manager.

This year we find creative colour applications across all categories, with Doherty Design Studio going all out with an innovative use of colour in St Kilda Residence, opting for bold purples, pinks, and a bedroom painted in bold bright red, while pale pastels dominate Mr Frankie by Harrison Interiors and Burleigh Pavilion by Alexander & CO.  Look out for the winners announced in the coming months!

Architects and designers have set a new precedent with this year’s submissions. They’ve exhibited original and masterful use of both colour and texture in their design approach, creating sophisticated interior and exterior spaces.
