The Dulux Colour Forecast for 2021 has a strong response to the pandemic, with the forecast reflecting the need for reassurance and strength, including three nurturing palettes that sooth and comfort: Retreat, Nourish and Reset.

More than ever, our homes have become a sanctuary from the outside world, and our desire to pause and reconnect with what matters to us most reflects the overarching theme for 2021s colour trends, “This year’s soft, earthy neutrals, muted greens and gentle mauve-greys provide a reassuring connection with nature, whilst richer and brighter hues, such as coral and stormy blue awaken our senses and allow for moments of optimism,” says Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux Colour and Communications Manager.

Warm whites, brown-based neutrals and dusty blues of the Retreat palette are a reaction to the current instability of the world, offering a sense of familiarity and refuge, while the Nourish palette features mossy and sage greens, turmeric and citrus, capturing our renewed appreciation for natural beauty. And finally there’s Reset, which contains an uplifting and optimistic palette of enriching and brighter hues, with playful mash-ups of pink and terracotta which hint at 70s nostalgia, evoking memories of travel and fun.

“Life may be slower, but there’s joy to be had in a less frantic pace. We draw closer to family and our local community, building new connections with those around us; there is much to be grateful for and building resilience is our latest attribute,” says Andrea.

This global crisis has changed our relationship with our homes – not just on a practical level, the lines between our work and home have blurred beyond recognition. This also affects us on an emotional level too.
