Wowowa is an architectural firm who knows how to get attention, and their latest residential creation is no exception. Backing onto Merri Creek in Melbourne, the home is an undulating honeycomb of convex turrets and concave exteriors.

Nestled into the vibrant streetscape of Fitzroy North, which is filled with Victorian cottages and terraces, as well as Art Deco homes, Merri Creek House is a nod to the character of the area.

The creative interior reimagines our ideas of ‘home’ featuring design elements which focus on playfulness and whimsy, and where brick turrets and rounded concave walls come together with purpose.

“The sculptural home is filled with joyful moments allowing the family of four space to explore and experience the changing light throughout the day,” says Wowowa.

Comprised of two whole turrets and one deconstructed form, the home is divided into three sections, one at the front and two at the rear of the property.

The interior features a plethora of materials, textures and colour. The cylindrical towers hold a rumpus room, study, dining room and a sweeping staircase, while the rear structure holds the main living area and kitchen.

Light enters the home from different angles throughout the day, casting dappled patterns and refracted colours across surfaces, adding to the whimsical design.

“The most playful moments are the spaces between the turrets, as the home twists to provide the workhorse amenity required in any family dwelling,” says Wowowa.

The interior colours feel both nostalgic and contemporary, a theme captured in the home’s copper bricks and trims embellished with striped yellow and white awnings.
