Red Hill Residence is a peaceful bushland property reimagined by SJS Design, bringing life and modernity to its previously dated and lacklustre interior.

The original Balinese inspired architecture featured exceptional timber detailing, most notably the pyramidal ceiling of the lounge room area. However after 18 years, the clients of the home felt it was time for a refresh, inviting SJS design to imbue the space with levity and vitality, creating a warm and inviting home once more.

A sense of levity and softness was imbued within the impressive oriental architectural details through the inclusion of curvaceous forms and lighter, brighter colours and textures that popped against the clients private art collection.

Without completely stripping the house of its original design, SJS design integrated classic with contemporary and Eastern with Western, through the considered selection of tones, textures and forms which bridged these divergent worlds.

Lighter tones of marble, handmade tiles and white walls were offset against contrasting materials of dark bronze, aged brass and smoked timber, imparting a sense of sophistication and luxury. Bright additions of rich purples, mustards and royal blues through the soft furnishings, introduced energy and playfulness to the space.

Accommodating for large gatherings of friends and family was a necessity for the home's clients. With this in mind, a second casual dining area was created with a  grand marble island bench that was custom-designed to accommodate additional seating at either end, thanks to its clever splayed-angle leg.

The home's breathable open plan welcomes entertainment and gathering, with each area flowing into one another, it becomes one large collective space that feels both intimate and spacious.
