Australian designer and creative, Sarah Ellison has just launched her latest (and third) furniture collection, and we couldn’t love it more. Titled ‘SOL’, the name of the monolithic collection is a reference to the personification of the sun in Roman mythology, inspired by Sarah’s desire to create pieces with a sense of warmth and permanence.

Made up of furniture, décor and lighting, the collection draws on a warm, ‘70s inspired palette with ‘chubby’ yet sophisticated silhouettes. The HUGY occasional chair and the MUSE modular lounge, play into Sarah’s affection for the interiors schemes of the 1970s, while use of limestone, glass and textural upholstery combine throughout the collection for a truly sensory experience. Timber shines and makes its first major appearance in Sarah’s third collection, with warm oak tones used on dining tables and chairs.

Globally, the world feels fragile right now, the pieces within SOL have a grounding quality, monolithic even. Like the sun’s consistency in our lives, this collection is designed with permanence in mind. I want the owners of these products to feel a sense of calm, warmth and safety.

Sarah’s popular ceramic offerings, which were hugely popular in her past collections, return with a table lamp, décor objects and vases. Inspired by Jean Royère ‘undulation’ motif, the ROYÉRE lamp is both playful and classic with its wiggly arms. Perhaps one of our favourite pieces in the collection is the SARAH ELLISON X NUSA INDAH Surfboard, “Collaborating with my long-time creative photographer Dave Wheeler, we captured the natural rock formations of my home beach of Bronte in Sydney. We used this imagery to create these sculptural (and functional) art pieces with Nusa Indah Surfboards,” shares Sarah.

I wanted to create a dramatic narrative by combining exaggerated and sculptural forms in sensual and textural materials. They are bold statement pieces, a sum of parts, when placed together create a gallery like collection that embodies my warm-minimalist aesthetic.
