Picture this; waking slowly to natural light while the soft sound of the harbour in the near distance. You then drift quietly to the open plan, light filled kitchen and spend a few minutes staring out at the dreamscape view, which perfectly encapsulates the beauty that is the Sydney harbour; soft blues bathing in glistening sun which folds gently against the voluptuous curve of natural rock just over the passage.
For a moment, you truly forget the hustle of the nearby Sydney CBD, a mere 10 minutes away. It is sure safe to say, if there ever was a residence that I knew I was destined for, this would be it.
Meticulously curated by interior designer, Alex Morrison from Alex Morrison Interiors, the residence whispers of European influence. Clearly an inspiration that she has carried with her throughout her life, Alex recalls her parents dragging her across borders from museum to museum; the creative grew to love design from a young age.
‘My exposure to different styles of design whilst moving through various parts of the world is something I found fascinating and fell in love with,’ the designer shares.
A love that was (clearly) put to great use, the darling point home was purchased in 2019. ‘The best part was being able to run with my instincts and the vision I had for the space. In the initial design stages, it was fun playing with different ideas that you normally wouldn’t put forward to a client,’ says Alex.
‘It’s a surreal feeling imagining a design and then months later being able to stand in the middle of it. A concept imagined, becomes something tangible and real.’
In the most take-your-breath-away fashion, Violet Flame residence boasts a simplistic air of traditional seaside living, as well as a sophisticated eastern suburban elegance. Pared back and luxuriously minimal in its bones, the spacious apartment makes the most of the picturesque Sydney Harbour view which deliciously sweeps from the kitchen to the living room.
Originally a little disjointed, Alex flipped the floorplan and created an entirely open plan central space which is home to a calacatta viola marble fireplace (which is in action, by the way) which acts as a centrepiece of the home, and certainly does all of the talking. Think, cosy winter nights, red wine and an open fire.
Following a neutral palette, the finishes and materials were carefully selected to enhance the breathtaking view and the minimalist design, such as the incorporation of timeless soft white walls, allowing the herringbone floors to be the main feature throughout the home.
With simplicity in mind, Alex hoped to create a space which would work with a new homeowner’s personal furniture and style. The existing furniture within the space are an intentional mix of texture and unique pieces which speak to the history of location, as well as allowing the timeless, minimal design hold its own.
