Artist Statement
At its heart, my practice is driven by freedom. In order to feel free and happy when painting I need to feel connected to the subject. Through this connection my work flows and is very enjoyable. Using an optimistic palette, I desire to evoke warmth and happiness in everything I create. It is the season for Hellebores (winter roses), I have them in my garden and pick the flowers for my house. I love the simplicity of still life, when I have a simple subject I have the freedom to create. Portraiture has always fascinated me, being an emotional person I love to portray emotions through portraits. Costeño is a Colombian (Spanish) word for a coastal dweller, his stance and expression immediately took me. Both of these works have been created with large sweeping brushstrokes a new style I have been developing which enables me to feel completely free when painting.
