‘The need for a rug to be both practical and aesthetically pleasing is key – as I entertain a lot, I’m no stranger to a spill, so something easy to clean is optimal!’ Photo: Hande Renshaw

Floorboards are my favourite, and by layering rugs on top of them, it compartmentalises and warms spaces, without ruining the flow of the home,’ says Annalisa Ferraris. Photo: Hande Renshaw

As an artist, Annalisa Ferraris spends her days surrounded by colour, pattern and form. Her home is a reflection of her artistic flair – a vibrant interior with a mix of both classic and retro styling pieces.

Annalisa’s home is a terrace in eastern suburbs of Sydney, which she shares wth her husband, and their dog, Peanut the French Bulldog. Since moving into the home a couple of years ago, Annalisa has slowly personalised the spaces. The plan is to renovate, but for now, small decorative additions make a big impact.

Floorboards are my favourite, and by layering rugs on top of them, it compartmentalises and warms spaces, without ruining the flow of the home,’ she shares.

For Annalisa, it’s important the pieces in her home are not only beautiful but also practical, especially when it comes to flooring. The artist was drawn to Double’s latest collection, Ephemera, for its maximalist qualities, appealing to the playful eccentric within - pieces that can be easily machine washable, whether she’s painting an artwork at home or playing with Peanut.

‘Peanut is fond of a dip in any puddle/muddy hole/body of water followed swiftly by a self-administered body scrub on a rug – so having a completely machine washable rug is a real saviour,’ Annalisa says.

By marrying exceptional designs and impactful functionality that is made for no worries living, the Ephemera collection is inspired by the new and old, lost and found, the keepsakes we love that make up our lives.

With a focus on statement prints, organic shapes, and bold  aesthetics, Ephemera easily integrates into contemporary spaces, injecting a pop of visual fun into modern living with mindful practicality. Whether you are seeking to reinvigorate an existing space , or a dopamine-core enthusiast at heart, the capsule is an uplifting salute the moment you step into a room.

Double’s brand name alludes to its innovative patent. Each rug comes with two layers, the base and a top layer that can be peeled off and cleaned in the washing machine time and time again. All the fun things in life – sandy feet, red wine, energetic pets, (we’re looking at you, Peanut!) messy sleepovers – are no trouble for its stain-resistant, washable technology. Double rugs remain beautiful and softly tactile underfoot while all the best memories and life milestones are made.

‘The need for a rug to be both practical and aesthetically pleasing is key- as I entertain a lot, I’m no stranger to a spill, so something easy to clean is optimal,' shares Annalisa.

Although Annalisa has a studio away from home, she also brings work home and enjoys creating pieces around the house, ‘Flecks of paint are found in obscure places, and rubbings from sketches adorn the floors – so on the occasions I do work from home, it’s a quick descent into mess. Not having to stress about the floor is much more conducive to getting the work done, and definitely more enjoyable when it’s complete.’
