Living Room Trends

With the new season bringing with it shorter days and cooler nights, we welcome natural, textural and organic elements with a touch of 1970s nostalgia into our living rooms.

‘We’re seeing the coastal aesthetic, traditionally dominated by blue and green hues moving towards the use of darker colours, with dramatic use of stone and timber accents,’ says Jason Granziera, Lounge Lovers in-house stylist. Photo: Courtesy of Lounge Lovers

While the lines are still blurred between home and work life, our living spaces are as important as ever. More than ever, we crave spaces which soothe – the latest living room trends shine a light on comfort and bringing natural elements into our homes.

‘There is a continued movement post-covid, towards the incorporation of earthy and natural additions in the home – we’re more willing to invest in artisanal and hand-crafted pieces, rather than purchase cheaper products that won't stand the test of time,’ says Jason Granziera, Lounge Lovers in-house stylist.

A minimal and uncluttered aesthetic has replaced the layered interior, with a monochromatic palette complemented by earthy accent tones of timber, stones (yes, it’s still huge!) and metallic patinas.

Natural and organic elements such as earthy timbers, marble, rattan and natural fabric textures, such as linen and boucle are key. Two trends that incorporate natural elements, but with very different approaches are, ‘the blending of vintage and nostalgia inspired pieces, layered with lots of accessories and plants – key influences here are from the 70's and 80's, with lots of rattan and hand-crafted items such as pottery and copper wall art,’ says Jason.

The most important piece in any living space is still the sofa – a timeless and comfortable sofa will set the tone for the rest of your space.

‘Much of our time at home is spent on the sofa: relaxing, working from a laptop, even holding a zoom call. When you’re looking to furnish your living space your first priority is working out where the sofa will go and what it will look like, so it’s definitely the most important piece in the room,’ says Jason.

A simple and classic sofa will stand the test of time and passing trends, easecially in a neutral tone – the perfect addition to our current nature inspired interiors.
