Founded in 2017 by Matt Di Costa and Chris Walker, Nood Co is a brand that was born out of accidental ambition. It all started with a simple question: ‘Can we make something truly original?’ Little did they know that this question would set them on a path to revolutionise the concept of concrete.

The concept originated when the pair sought a concrete basin on the market but were unable to find one. This marked the beginning of their quest to design and develop a concrete basin with a feminine quality.

‘From a design standpoint, we were very firm on the idea that concrete didn’t have to be masculine, and we wanted it to fit within all interior and exterior settings, not just industrial or minimalist ones,’ says Chris.

This initial concept has carried throughout the Nood Co journey as they continue to embrace the duality of a traditionally masculine building material, transforming concrete into an ethereal form – the unexpected fusion has become the brand's signature. Inspired by the conceptual alchemy of this transformation, Nood Co began creating a range of handcrafted concrete basins that not only served a functional purpose but also became true expressions of creativity.

‘Concrete is very unique – we live in a very progressive world with incredible innovation and technology but amazingly concrete is still a staple in the construction industry so it’s nice to introduce refined products of the same material,’ says Matt.

Each piece in the range exudes a deep appreciation for authentic craftsmanship – all crafted by hand locally in Perth. The brand is deeply grounded in the tactile nature of handmade pieces and a passion for genuine, tangible quality. The handcrafted items in the collection emphasise the value of artisanal craftsmanship, a quality that cannot be replicated by mass-produced goods.

Nood Co recently broadened its already bold colour palette by introducing Conscious hues—colours that are inspired by the serene landscapes to which we retreat to. There are over 80 designs in 21 colours, each product is a labour of love – merging artisanal craftsmanship with innovative design.

Nood Co showcases the timeless allure of concrete as a design medium. Beyond the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and design, there is dedication to sustainability and eco-conscious practices – constantly exploring ways to minimise the brand’s carbon footprint and reduce waste in the production processes.

More than 85% of the materials used in the composition and packaging of Nood basins are sourced locally in Australia. The pass-through rate is 95%, resulting in less than 5% waste, is then recycled at a local recycling plant, creating a closed-loop system. The colour in each basin is dispersed without the use of chemicals, ensuring uniformity both inside and outside. And when Nood basins reach the end of their life, they can be recycled.

‘It’s a really exciting challenge to create a product that we can enjoy, but also doesn’t contribute to the demise of the planet. It’s being socially aware, and if you’re a designer, much like packaging and logistics, that’s part of the process – a problem to solve and dive into,’ Matt says.

The latest addition to the Nood Co collection is the Juno bathtub – the first contemporary bathtub offering from the brand. Juno captures the epitome of sleek design and fine craftsmanship, and is available in every colour in the collection.

‘The Juno bathtub is cute and disproportionate – everything Nood aims for. I think mixing that aesthetic with a building material is really fun,’ shares Mat. Handcrafted from Nood’s exclusive materials and the finest precision, Juno is made to order and Australia’s premium concrete bathtub option – a unique and sculptural piece for the bathroom.

‘We wanted to create a product range that was uniquely Nood and accessible for a wide range of use. Products that were minimal enough to seamlessly join the bathroom composition,’ Matt adds.
